What's happening with me

I have used up my cordless phone and had to recharge it when it died in the middle of a sentence.  I have called HUD to get an extension of time for painting the entire inside where I live.  They agreed as long as the landlord and I put it in writing for their records, to allow to October.
I called and left messages 3 times before I got a response from the most-recommended major appliance repairman, and he referred me to someone else. The 2nd guy is coming in the morning to repair the knob on my gas range. The HUD inspector said repair it or replace the whole stove.  Yeah, right!  On less than $700 a month.
The mechanic at the transmission shop still hasn't got my car on his lift to diagnose the problem.  He's one of those businesses with a corner on the market, and almost the only guy in town that does this work. Technically, it's my son-in-law's car, and his insurance shows me as the primary driver. He's still waiting to find out how serious and how much.
As for the previous blog about Windows Live Writer, I finally got the blog posted to Spaces, but I tried so many ways, I'm not sure which one worked!  Ha Ha!  I will say I really enjoyed writing in that program offline.  I'm on dial-up internet access, and can't receive phone calls when I am online.  When I get it figured out, I will post any tips I have to help other bloggers.
So, best wishes to my Spaces friends, and keep up the good work.  I hardly have time to read real books anymore because I read so much online.                easygoingcountrylady

America was built on religious freedom

I learned as I grew up that my country was built on religious freedom, and I still believe that.

Long before the Iraq War, I was in a famous pancake restaurant where a foreign family in veils and turbans came to eat.  But first, they placed their own little rugs in a small clearing in the dining room. Without any look around them, they knelt as a family, facing east, and said their brief prayers.

They may not have paid attention to us, but the rest of the patrons fell silent, whether in respect or astonishment, until they arose and seated themselves at a table.  Then the clink and clatter of dishes resumed, accompanied with light chatter among the diners.

I had respect for their dedication to their beliefs.  As you know, if you're a regular reader, I have blogged and commented in a very hard-nosed manner about the brutality of 9-11 to innocent civilians from almost 30 countries.  That was cold and impersonal compared to taunting us with videos of our innocent civilians contractors (who risked their lives to help rebuild Iraq) being beheaded.  I'm stubbornly supportive of our military, and always will be.

However, a local early news show connected with a local call-in radio show to ask:  "Do you think the current diversity of cultures, languages and religions of immigrants is good or bad for our country?"

There was an amazing diversity of responses, but the majority said that if they came here for a better life, education or work, they had no problem with legal immigrants, as long as they meant or did no harm.

On the subject of immigrants receiving government benefits that we pay taxes to support, Americans were angry.  The general consensus was if they don't want to become naturalized Americans or pay taxes, they don't get the benefits meant for Americans.  But they don't want people to starve or die for lack of benefits, either, so some suggested charitable organizations, and deportation back to their native country.

In closing, I would say that, to me, being an American does not mean you have to be a Christian (but I am); it means you have a right to your own religious beliefs.  Even more than that, we have the right to talk or write about how we feel and believe.

We do not have the right to threaten or harm others for their beliefs, or otherwise break the laws of the United States of America.

So, that's what's happening in my part of the country.

Can someone help with Windows Live Writer?

I am so frustrated!  I have several blogs written in Windows Live Writer that I cannot post to my blog.  Does anyone know what causes this?
I have gone through Writer's help and MSN help, but the things they suggest that may be causing the problem do not tell me exactly how to correct it.  I am on dial-up access to the internet.
I spend hours re-wording the search and reading the answers.  I have things to do and places to go, for Heaven's sake!
I tried to print it so I could copy it into Spaces, and the computer says I need to re-install the printer driver.....PHEW.
The Writer toolbar doesn't seem to save it anywhere except Writer.  I tried to cut and paste, but it didn't offer "cut".
As the late Gilda Radner said, "It's always something!"  Sigh..............easygoingcountrylady

Misc. Updates

Hello, Spaces friends!
*Small towns.....waiting for the transmission shop to have a space to put my car before I have it towed over there.  Sigh.....
*I survived the annual HUD inspection of my place.  Landlord may not be happy, for all the things they noted that he's responsible for fixing.  As for my responsibilities, only a button on my cookstove that's hard to turn off.  They say for safety's sake, since it's natural gas.  I never use that burner anyway; there's only me to cook for, but they say it all has to work properly.  Next week, I have to re-qualify personally, with proof of expenses, disability, etc.......
*I always consider myself an old hippie, since that was the culture during my teen years, and generally a liberal to middle-of-the-road.  But all this fuss about water-boarding is getting on my nerves.  The last time I heard, a "terrorist" was someone who performs horrific acts against (usually) innocent civilians.
If there is an impending plot about to be carried out that could kill hundreds of people, I expect my country and military to get the information to stop it.
Since our own military has stated on TV that being water-boarded was part of their training to learn to resist and survive torture, I find it difficult to criticize or question how those hundreds of people get saved.  These methods have been used against our people, not to mentioned being taunted with films of beheading our civilian contractors who were trying to help rebuild foreign countries.
I believe I am not experienced or informed enough, as most of us are not, to tell them how to do their jobs.  I realize I may upset some people by saying this, but I find it impossible to feel sorry for anyone who deliberately plots to kill and maim hundreds of innocent civilians, including women and children.

For those who disagree, I pray God protects us all, since you won't let our military.      Linda T.  (easygoingcountrylady)

CHAOS EVERYWHERE

 *  About the Government taking partial ownership of a car company:  That's NUTS!  We already know they're printing up money with nothing to back it up.  We also know the way government does business; like paying for a gross (144) of hammers when they only need one, and rejecting the rest "because we have nowhere to store them".  Why would a car company want anyone who does business like that to be part owners?  Why not let the autoworkers take shares?
 *  Swine Flu:  Somebody ought to go to Mexico where it seems to have started and help them stamp it out too.  Mexico's people are the ones dropping like flies; most of the other countries are managing to save their victims.  I must commend their activities to help stop the spread.
 *  Did you see the "Oprah" show that featured brain surgery on a very fat woman to stop her food cravings by electrical impulses?  Dr. Oz, by the way, will be starting his own show soon.
 *  I am going to be on foot for a few weeks.  Transmission fluid trails on my driveway.  My son-in-law from Houston has already assessed the situation and it's going to be handled.  I can get rides.
 *  This week is going to be all rain, although I personally like rainy weather.  When it's done, things will grow out lush, but it's going to be hot.
 * I may be blogging a lot less often, but I am trying to keep up with my network.  I especially try to keep up with Cheryl Photonut, whose blogs I find to be practical, no-nonsense and survivalist.  An attitude that could probably help us all to survive these chaotic times.

Thanks, Network, for all the good reading!      easygoingcountrylady      (Linda T.)

Hi 'Country'!  Thanks for coming by.  The pics that I display on my space are now mostly 'memories'.  In years past, we have spent a lot of time either in West Texas, or in Colorado.  But the fellow that owned the resort near Gunnison that we used to go every summer has himself retired and closed the resort.  He lives there most of the time, and in Southlake, TX the rest of the time.  Anyway, he says he is just too old to want to keep it open any longer.  But, we still go out to Fort Davis, TX every year.  There is this ranch back in the mountains that we like to stay at.  Having been born and raised in the country, I just can't help going back at least once a year.   I love to photograph those ranch signs.  It's real interesting how creative they are.  I've been to one of the big ranches in southwest Texas that I did get a chuckle out of.  The ranch headquarters sits twenty-two miles off the highway.  The road in/out is more of a trail than a road, and they have signs posted every so far saying "Persevere!  Hdq/highway (so many) miles!   (You gotta love it!  LOL)

Hi  Country Lady,
Your blog entrees are interesting as usual.  I'm glad you are feeling better.  I like that idea of Meals On Wheels.  The paperwork must be dreadful.  But you know so many interesting people.  I hope your day is going well.
Peace,
~Truly
